In Praise of Shadows, written by Jun’ichirō Tanizaki, was published as a revised edition by Guangxi Normal University Press (imprint: Shanghai Beibei) in 2021. It is part of a series of revised editions for which I illustrated the covers using a vector-based approach.

While developing the cover, I encountered an ancient painting filled with flowing, continuous curves. The soft, seemingly endless lines suggested shadows unfolding in the darkness. I incorporated the moon and birds as key motifs to evoke a receding world of shadow and memory, reflecting a subtle, poetic Eastern aesthetic.
