Spoon in the Sky

Book Illustration

Spoon in the Sky is an environmental education book for young readers, focusing on the critically endangered Spoon-billed Sandpiper—affectionately known as “Little Spoon” for its distinctive spoon-shaped bill.

I created a series of interior illustrations and designed the chapter opening spreads. Each chapter is represented through a numbered illustration that visually reflects its theme. For example, Chapter 3, Little Spoon’s First Long Journey, is illustrated with bird footprints forming the number three, beginning with a broken egg and ending with a Spoon-billed Sandpiper taking flight. Chapter 8, Egg Theft! Humans Come to Rob is depicted as a human hand reaching into a bird’s nest, forming the shape of the number eight.
